How to Download Instagram Reels on Android (Chrome and Samsung Internet)

Published 3 min read

On Android, saving a Reel is even simpler than on an iPhone: the browser puts the file straight into your Downloads folder, and your Gallery picks it up from there. You don't need an app from the Play Store, and you should be wary of ones that ask for your Instagram login. Here is the quickest way to do it, plus what to check when the video doesn't show up.

What you need

An Android phone with Chrome, Samsung Internet or another up-to-date browser, and a Reel from a public account. Reels from private accounts can't be downloaded: they are only shown to approved followers, and no trustworthy tool will ask for your password to get around that.

Open the Reel in the Instagram app. Tap the Share icon (the paper plane) and then Copy link. On some phones the option sits under a row of apps; scroll sideways if you don't see it straight away.

The copied link looks like instagram.com/reel/ followed by a short code. Using the Share sheet is more reliable than copying an address by hand.

Step 2: Paste and download in your browser

Open Chrome and go to our Instagram video downloader. Tap Paste. The Instagram tab is selected for you, and a preview appears within a few seconds, showing the thumbnail and the creator's name.

Tap Download Video. Chrome shows a small bar at the bottom of the screen while it saves, then a notification when it is done.

Step 3: Find the Reel on your phone

The file goes to the Downloads folder. You can open it three ways:

  1. Tap the "Download complete" notification.
  2. Open the Files app (or My Files on Samsung) and go to Downloads.
  3. Open your Gallery or Google Photos. Most phones show downloaded videos there within a few seconds, often in a "Download" album.

If it doesn't appear in the Gallery straight away, open it once from the Files app. That usually makes the Gallery notice it.

Using Samsung Internet or Firefox

The steps are the same in Samsung Internet, Firefox and Edge: paste the link, tap Download Video and confirm if the browser asks. Samsung Internet keeps downloads in My Files, under Download. Firefox lists them in its menu under Downloads.

Install it like an app

If you save Reels often, install the site so it opens from your home screen. In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. It opens full screen like a normal app, takes almost no space and needs no Play Store download. The paste button works the same inside it, so saving a Reel stays a two-tap job.

Why a browser beats a downloader app

Many Reels downloader apps on Android are packed with full-screen ads, ask for broad storage or accessibility permissions, or want your Instagram login. A browser-based tool needs none of that: it only reads the public link you paste and hands your browser a normal MP4 file. There is nothing running in the background after you close the tab.

What about quality and sound?

You get the same video file Instagram plays, in the best quality it offers for that Reel, up to 1080p when it was uploaded that way. Nothing is re-encoded and no watermark is added. Most Reels come with sound. When Instagram delivers the sound as a separate file, a Download Audio button appears next to the video so you can save it too; our Reel audio guide explains the M4A format you get.

When it doesn't work

A private or deleted Reel, or a link to a profile instead of a post, are the usual reasons. Instagram also slows down requests for short periods, so waiting a minute and trying again often helps. See our troubleshooting guide for each case.

Keep it fair

Saving a public Reel to watch offline is generally fine. Re-uploading someone else's video as your own can break copyright law and Instagram's rules. If you want to share it, ask the creator and give credit.
